How does Beetl use GPS?
Beetl has an onboard chip to pinpoint its location using satellites. Beetl actually uses three satellite systems: GPS, Beidou, and GLONASS, to ensure reliable and precise positioning worldwide.
How does Beetl work with mobile networks?
Beetl has an onboard 4G cellular antenna and SIM card.
It uses the 4G network to send information such as location (determined using GPS), battery level, and other events (like alarm alerts). It also receives information through the cell networks, like alarm arm and disarm signals and firmware updates.
How does Beetl use the cloud?
The cloud acts as a gateway which processes and stores information going to and from Beetl. For instance, for location tracking:
1. Beetl uses GPS to fix its location.
2. Beetl sends out its location over the 4G cell network.
3. Beetl's cloud receives the location signal, processes it, and stores it.
4. The cloud sends the location information to the Beetl app, which displays it on a map.
How does Beetl use bluetooth?
Beetle has an onboard Bluetooth antenna.
Why isn't Beetl hidden like other trackers?
We believe that prevention is better than cure. By making people aware that an item is being tracked, in combination with an alarm in the event of any disturbance, stealing an item becomes a very risky thing to do even if no-one is around to see a thief do it.
With hidden trackers, they only work in the event of an item being stolen which really is the worse case scenario - surely it's just better for items to not be stolen in the first place. Furthermore, to be hidden trackers need to be small which limits battery life and also reliability as GPS antennas need to be made very small. Finally, when hidden this can block GPS and mobile signals which again compromises their effectiveness.
Put another way, Beetl achieves everything a hidden tracker does with the hidden benefit of also deterring theft in the first place.
How does Beetl compare to miniature trackers such as Tile?
In truth this is like comparing apples and oranges.
Devices like Tile do no tracking of their own. Instead, they send out short-range Bluetooth signals and an associated smartphone app then uses the tag’s Bluetooth signals to guess its location. These type of devices are great for finding lost items in close proximity, like a pair of keys or a TV remote. If something moves, however, because they can’t track things in real time they're not accurate. Beetl tracks moving objects in real time, anywhere with a mobile signal.
Where is Beetl made?
Beetl is designed, assembled, and supported in the United Kingdom. We assemble the Beetl with global components.
